EBC- West Sound

EBC- West Sound is a new branch of longstanding, well known nonprofit Eastside Baby Corner (EBC), located in Issaquah. Our shared mission is “to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families in need. We do this by collecting and purchasing children's items and distributing them, free of charge, through local social service agencies. We give families help and hope.” We opened our doors in April 2016.

The EBC-WS service area includes most of the Kitsap Peninsula, from the south end of the Hood Canal Bridge (including tribal lands, Kingston, Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Silverdale, Port Orchard, and Olalla) to the north end of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (Key Peninsula and Gig Harbor).  We serve children from birth through age five, most of whom are members of low-income families.

EBC-WS has unique service delivery model. The process begins with members of the community, who donate gently used or new baby items at our central warehouse or “Hubette” in Bremerton, or at one of our drop-off locations in the greater Kitsap Peninsula. Items are sorted and stored at our “Hubette” location by a dedicated team of volunteers. Certain high-need items, such as diapers, wipes, car seats and formula, are purchased via our “Purchasing Power Program” to ensure these items are new and always available for the children.

We distribute items to children in need via our “provider partners,” those who provide direct support to families. They are invited apply to be a part of the EBC-West Sound network and are vetted using established EBC criteria. Potential provider partners include food banks, domestic violence agencies, foster care programs, early learning providers, tribal social services, public health nurses, government agencies and more.

Provider Partners submit orders through our online ordering system. Volunteers then bundle items for pickup by the partner, who deliver the items to low-income families who they have identified and pre-screened. Each order is customized according to each individual child’s need, age, size, and developmental level. Orders can range from a single package of diapers, to a car seat, to a full newborn layette.

In our first year of service, we anticipate serving 250 children in need.
