Bremerton Family YMCA

Who We Are

To build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. To instill the YMCA?s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all programs and services. To focus on programs which specifically serve our youth, teens, families, disabled, elderly and enlisted military families. Our top priority is to develop positive character in youth. In every program area we have incorporated the YMCA character development curriculum. Budget wise childcare/camps is our largest program with six school sites, two day camps, serving 22 elementary schools via bus and YMCA van connections. Over 3,500 children participate annually with $175,000 in scholarship support provided for low-income children. In numbers, teens are the largest YMCA program serving 4,500 annually. This includes Teen Late Night, National Youth Congress, Splash & Jam Plus, Teen weights, Special Events and Youth & Government. In just Late Night 2,500 different teens participated in 2010 with an all time high of 218 one Friday night. The YMCA spends $130,000 annually to subsidize Teen programs. Our YMCA handicapped youth learn-to-swim program is the longest running 'Y' activity at 52 consecutive years. It's totally free of charge to all youth and staffed by 30+ volunteers. Participants not only learn to swim but progress to become part of the YMCA team at Special Olympics. Including Selective Swim, youth sports, camps, teens, special events and Board/committees over 300 people volunteer annually at the YMCA. The Bremerton Family YMCA serves people from throughout Kitsap County a population base of over 200,000. We work closely with schools, youth/community organizations and in this project we will specifically collaborate with Bremerton and Central Kitsap Schools.
