BOARD OF DIRECTORS POSITION DESCRIPTION Role Summary:

The ideal KRM Board member is a passionate Christian leader who desires to serve those experiencing homelessness in Kitsap County. Board members are community ambassadors for KRM who make a personal philanthropic commitment, and partner with staff to raise funds throughout the community. Board members are influential in the communities they serve.

The role of the Board is to partner with and provide guidance to the Executive Director in developing and monitoring local strategies to deliver services, raise funds in accordance with the organizational goals, operate within the approved budget, and along with the Executive, serve as a voice to the community. Service on the Board is completely voluntary and without compensation. We are particularly looking for people with previous board experience and backgrounds in one of the following:

Management HR Communications/PR Community/government relations Finance Non-Profit Management Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Kitsap Rescue Mission Statement:

Motivated by our faith in Christ, our mission is to build a community on the Kitsap Peninsula that cares for those experiencing homelessness.

Core Responsibility:

Partner with the Executive and provide guidance and counsel in the development of strategies to deliver the KRM mission. This includes
reviewing results on a regular basis and providing advice and counsel to the Executive.

Community Relations:

In close partnership with the Executive, board members represent KRM to the community including, but not limited to: community organizations; state/local
governments; partners; faith-based entities; corporations; ethnic communities,

Raising Funds:

Revenue is essential to assure mission delivery. Board members make a commitment to personal philanthropy and to serve as advocates for the organization, leveraging personal networks to energize their community to support KRM. The Executive is the organization’s chief fundraiser and board members support that role as a key part of the partnership.

Administrative:

Provide financial oversight by annual budget approval and monthly monitoring of finances. Conduct searches and hire for the Executive Director position when needed Conduct the Executive Director’s yearly performance evaluation and compensation adjustments  The board is responsible to ensure the ED is meeting agreed-upon yearly performance goals and abiding by Board Policies Elect the Board Officers – Chair, Vice Chair(s), Treasurer, and Secretary. Assure board members meet their obligations of regularly attending board and committee meetings, reviewing management reports, and participating in planning processes. Recruit and orient new board members with the skills necessary for an effective board Evaluate the board’s performance.
