We are looking for individuals who can assist us with the running of the shelter. Volunteers are able to choose the amount of time they are able to contribute a week/month, as well as anything in particular they are looking to get involved in. To qualify you must be someone willing to meet our clients where they are, non judgemental or demeaning; have an open heart and a listening ear.

The volunteers are there to ensure the safety of the clients, ensuring only those with authorization are allowed into the facility. There is a little house keeping to be done but most of this is done by the clients themselves as part of their living skills training.

The afternoon/evening shift duties include:

- Read shift log

- Sort donations (if any)

- Buzz residence in/enforce showing of badge

- Answer phone

- Be available for medication (if needed)

- Enforce kitchen sign-up chart

- Make sure children are in bed by 9 pm

- Close the kitchen

- Write in shift log

- Turn shift over to next volunteer

We know your time is valuable as a volunteer so we are requesting anyone who is available for a 3-4 hour shift, which ever works best for your schedule. However many days a week is up to you as well! The afternoon/evening shift starts any time after 4:30 pm. The house closes up at 10 and the overnight volunteer takes over.

If you are going into 10th, 11th, or 12th grade next year and want to make a difference in your peer's access to sex-ed, this is for you! Teen Council runs for the duration of the school year with a mandatory retreat in mid-August 2018.

KidVantage is a basic needs bank that has been providing goods to families with children 0-12 in the central Puget Sound region for over 32 years.  

We are currently seeking new Board members from the west Puget Sound area to represent the communities we serve in Kitsap and Mason counties.  

The KidVantage Board is made up of civic minded folks from all walks of life who care about kids and families in our community.  They are passionate about ensuring kids have their basic needs met and find joy in working together to make a difference.

The Board of KidVantage is a governance board that meets on a monthly basis and has an active committee structure.  Board members serve as organization ambassadors, provide fiscal oversight and community boosters.  This includes helping us make connections with local funders and participating in fundraising events.

Board meeting can be attended in person or virtually through Zoom (as can committee meetings).  

We are in the process of establishing a Shared Housing program in Kitsap County. Residents will be newly released homeless prisoners who are already in the process of recovery from drugs and/or alcohol misuse. Housing source will be repurposed homes slated for demolition in approximately a year. We are using the Weld Seattle model, and are working closely with them. No drugs or alcohol will be allowed on the property.

Think of this as a halfway house, providing stable housing where the former inmate is able to continue the recovery process that was started behind bars. We help each person to become physically, mentally, and financially capable of living on their own. In nearly every case, this is not possible when the inmate is released into homelessness.

We are looking to add two board members who are familiar with homelessness, preferably the homeless population in Kitsap County. The board meets once a month for between 60 and 90 minutes.

The average time that a board member spends on Cares board activities is 5 hours a month, i.e. board meetings, sub committee work, strategic planning and representation.

The Department of Natural Resources ANeMoNe program is currently seeking volunteers to be Site Guardians for our Case Inlet and Anderson Cove monitoring sites. Site guardians visit the monitoring site once every other week and perform a bird survey, eelgrass survey, and check our water sensors for biofouling. Work is approximately two hours per visit. 

We provide training and gear. In general, this work does not require background knowledge or experience but there is of course lots of opportunity to learn!

We are looking for someone who is interested in gaining case management skills. This volunteer position is open to anyone who is looking to gain experience in this field, gather school credits, looking to build some credibility on their resume, or even a trained professional just looking to help out in their spare time. The times and days are flexible and are workable with your schedule.

Completing a Quarterly drive-by inventory of banners and taking pictures when needed of our banners.

Kitsap Harvest’s Grow-A-Row project is intended to connect home gardeners’ excess garden harvest to Kitsap County’s vulnerable populations without access to nutritious food, prevent food waste from home producers and farmers markets, and build community capacity for food production and sharing. Kitsap County gardeners, connected by a network of donation stations, distribution volunteers, and our aggregation station, can deliver fresh seasonal locally grown produce to feed communities most at risk for food insecurity and malnutrition and build regional sustainability and resilience through grassroots community care.

The growth of the program will require coordination of many volunteers, destinations for donated produce, community gardens, farmers market donation stations, as well as building the framework and capacity to grow in the future. Establishing this network will require a number of skills and responsibilities to be shared across a committee of dedicated volunteers.

The Kitsap Harvest Grow-A-Row program will be facilitated by a working committee consisting of 6 volunteer members. The meeting frequency of the committee will likely vary over the course of the calendar year. Certain categories of responsibilities will have more to do in some seasons than others. The committee will need to be adaptable and collaborative.

These are initial conceptions of the needs of the committee and the different responsibilities that can be grouped by skill set into roles for individual members. In reality, committee members can flexibly collaborate and share skill sets, time and energy amongst themselves as a group according to the emergent needs and goals of the program.

KidVantage has been serving the central Puget Sound community for over 32 years.  We provide basic needs items to kids and families experiencing poverty or other family crises.  Items include diapers, wipes, baby formula, clothing and so much more.

We are seeking members of the community to assist us processing orders and sorting goods at our hub on Dawn Road in Bremerton.  Shifts are usual 2 to 2 1/2 hours in length.  We provide training an a tangible way you can help kids in our community.  

Volunteers who can commit to a regular time slot can become specialist in different areas of the agency.  Become a Diaper Diva or a Safety Check King!

Core volunteers are the foundation of support that StandUp for Kids relies upon to offer support to homeless youth in Kitsap County.  Volunteers may choose from a number of roles to support our mission.  Those roles include: 

Food Bag Assembly: Periodically work with others to prepare weekend food bags, which are distributed to homeless and at risk youth through the school systems. 

Inventory Support: Periodically organize items which are packed into weekend food bags.  May include assisting with picking up donated or purchased items from local outlets. 

Delivery Driver:  Our primary distribution method is to supply schools with food and hygiene packs.  The school partners then distribute them to the students.  Delivery is generally one day on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.  Personal vehicle is necessary to deliver packs. 

Food Drive Support– Help in two hour shifts at food drives, which provide a significant contribution to our weekend food bag distribution. 

Community Outreach Booth Worker– Help in two hour shifts at events like Pride, Whaling Days, etc.  Represent StandUp for Kids, sharing information about how we can help homeless youth, and how people can volunteer or donate to support our efforts. 

Fundraising Auction Support: Assist with our annual auction.  Many opportunities to help at our Fall Gala Fundraiser.

Numerous studies have shown that social isolation and loneliness leads to negative health outcomes.  Meals on Wheels Kitsap seeks to provide meals, nutrition, and support services to improve the quality of life for seniors and others with hunger and health needs in Kitsap County.  In order to support people aging in place with good nutrition, independence and dignity, Kitsap Phone Friends is intended to connect lonely seniors and adults with disabilities who may be socially isolated for a variety of reasons, with others in their community.

Meals on Wheels Kitsap (MOWK) is seeking Home Delivered Meals Drivers to delivered nutritionally balanced meals to homebound seniors in the Greater Bremerton area. Volunteer drivers: provide critical outreach and safety checks to decrease social isolation; support seniors to live well independently; and ensure our community’s seniors do not go without a nutritious meal.

The Alzheimer’s Association, is looking for Early Stage Memory Loss Support Group Facilitators. The goal of the Alzheimer’s Early Stage support groups is to provide emotional, social and/or educational support to group members through regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems and have a safe place to express and share their journey with the disease.

We are fortunate enough to have several schools and organizations that come in for scheduled tours and we would like to train you to teach the public about our county. So many stories and interesting facts, help us to make history come alive.

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is seeking episodic Volunteers for possible remote or community outreach off-site or behind-the-scenes on-site curatorial, marketing or education department projects. No experience or art background necessary, adults and teens age 18+ -- we will train you. Good people skills required and fluent computer skills preferred. Episodic volunteers assist with select events or special projects (e.g. curatorial research or data entry, marketing flyer distribution, education department support, or strong, careful lifters for installation crew -- possibly other volunteer opportunities as they arise). Seeds of Grace is looking for motivated volunteers with events experience to join our events committee! Think you could help lead us through the year with exciting and innovative events? Join the team!

Graduate Strong provides financial aid filing assistance to youth and families in schools and in the community. We are looking for volunteers interested in supporting these efforts through events with groups and 1:1. 

Training is required and offered twice per year (fall/spring). Financial Aid Navigators have access to a calendar showing all of the potential events to participate in and sign up on their own when available. Fall (October 1-Dec 15) is the busiest time of the year with many events scheduled primarily during the day Monday-Friday. 

Have a heart for helping seniors?  Providing friendship, belonging and community - Meals on Wheels Kitsap provides nutritionally balanced meals to Kitsap seniors.  We are currently recruiting volunteers to support current site needs and build capacity to re-open future meal sites throughout our community.  

Current location needs:  Bremerton Senior Center, Thursdays and Fridays.

Community Dining Volunteers work in teams of two or more to:

Successful volunteers: understand and follow Meals on Wheels Kitsap procedures and policies; provide a welcoming environment for all of the reserved diners; respect the host site; and ensure meal service and ensure cleanup is completed by 1:00 PM.

The St. Vincent de Paul Assistance office (food bank) serves families in Bremerton. Interviewers greet clients at the front desk and speak to them about what needs they have (and which foods they would use). Interviewers speak to clients one on one and their work is extremely rewarding. This is office work, however there is repetitive sitting and standing. Our computer program is simple to use.

We need interviewers on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 10:15 to 2:30. Experience in a food bank is not necessary, we will train you! Volunteers make the food bank at St. Vincent de Paul possible. 

The Assistance Office is located at 1137 North Callow Avenue. Volunteers are needed to prepare food baskets and other assistance to local families. We are looking for compassionate people to give their time to our food bank. Help us to help others by volunteering for any of the following positions:

□ Interviewers to determine the needs of individuals requesting assistance.
□ Food room workers to stock and prepare food baskets.
□ Workers to clean facilities and sort and stock items.

Volunteers choose one day per week that they are able to commit to a four hour shift, 10:15 am to 2:30 pm. We need volunteers on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The Kitsap Community Food Co-op is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator!

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The volunteer coordinator provides professional staff support to KCFC volunteers, ensuring that all volunteers feel empowered to take action on behalf of the co-op, while feeling engaged and appreciated.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The volunteer coordinator reports directly to the board of directors, and is managed by the President of the board along with other staff roles. This role is responsible for all aspects of volunteer recruitment, retention, and appreciation, and communicating . Membership coordinator will be a supportive role only to this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

o   Working with several avenues, engage in ongoing recruitment of volunteers for tasks, committees and the board of directors

o   Respond in a timely manner to incoming volunteer inquiries

o   Interview/process incoming volunteers, and delegate to tasks, roles/committees as appropriate

o   Work with committees to develop volunteer job descriptions as needed

o   Organize regular training and engagement opportunities for volunteers

o   Work with committee leadership to identify volunteer needs, and communicate strategy associated with filling those roles

o   Act as liaison between the Board, committees and the volunteer base

o   Positive, supportive and energetic communications to volunteers

o   Conflict resolution and support for volunteers as needed

o   Maintain & update Co-op 101 Volunteer Training document on a regular basis.

Story from Amelia, Case Manager: “Our Fresh Start shower program volunteers do several different jobs such as greet clients, check them in, help them find clothing, and refreshing/sanitizing the showers. While doing these jobs, many volunteers get to know our clients. When we have regular clients and volunteers, our volunteers can be seen as mentors to our clients. Our clients talk to them and tell them about life or problems that they’re going through, and our volunteers listen to them, support them, and encourage them.”

Mission 

To provide all members of our community with personal dignity, Fishline Food Bank & Comprehensive Services, in collaboration with Kitsap Rescue Mission and the City of Poulsbo, will operate a pilot mobile shower program that will provide the unsheltered neighbors of North Kitsap access to public hygiene services. 

 General Description 

The Shower Attendant supports the Fishline Fresh Start program staff in offering a free shower service to those without access to consistent hygiene services. This position involves multi-tasking, from assisting with daily set-up, making sure the shower trailer is clean and operational, organizing hygiene items and cleaning after each guest (per CDC COVID-19 guidelines). This position also requires the ability to work with diverse populations with a compassionate and welcoming demeanor. The shower attendant will greet every shower guest, guide them to what supplies they need for the shower, walk them to the stall and monitor the time allotted. This is an outdoor position and will be subject to inclement weather, proper coverings and equipment will be supplied. The ability to stand, bend and move around for some periods of time is strongly suggested. Loose, comfortable clothing with applicable layers for weather and closed-toed comfortable shoes is required. There will be a minimum of two shower attendants per shift along with program staff. 

Necessary Skills: 

Engage in regular meetings with other volunteers and staff as we brainstorm, plan, and implement fundraising efforts for the rescued animals living at One Heart Wild.  

Gallery Docent volunteers continually rotate through both floors of our museum, supervising and interpreting exhibitions while engaging guests in active and meaningful art conversations. This role serves as an arts ambassador, directly coordinating with and supporting the Gallery and Volunteer Manager, as well as Curatorial Associates and the Curatorial Department.  Growth opportunities include the ability to interact with and demonstrate select artworks, to lead group tours and to assist the Curatorial Department and BIMA Staff with other museum-related tasks, projects or events. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) preferred. You do not have to live on island nor have an arts background -- just possess a love of the arts, love to talk with people and love learning. We will teach you how to share with visitors the diversity of artists and forms of creativity endemic to our region. This person will work closely with the Kitsap Harvest team to learn and become competent at being a skilled leader. All we need is a willingness to learn!

Since all volunteers get to take home a portion of the harvest, Glean Leaders have access to fresh fruit all season long. This is the perfect opportunity for people who like to preserve food and who want to give back to the community. We ask that Glean Leaders be available on a consistent day and can commit to the entire harvest season.

Government Liaisons collaborate with government partners to communicate, plan and coordinate service delivery to clients and communities, share information with key stakeholders, and seek opportunities for partnership that result in more efficient service to clients.

General upkeep of the animal sanctuary grounds, including but not limited to: storm clean-up, path maintenance, trail maintenance and mud mitigation. Hours needed in a week is dependent on weather and what may be needed to maintain a safe environment for animals and people of all ages and abilities.

Help with construction and building repair projects around the One Heart Wild animal care sanctuary. Time needed on-site will vary from week to week, and is dependent on what needs tending to.

The Lord's Neighborhood Diner is looking for a kitchen manager. This is a volunteer position which requires about 4 - 8 hours a week. The duties are to coordinate the food for meals by: ordering food though Northwest Harvest via the internet/phone; picking up food from the Bremerton Food Bank; develop a menu for the volunteers to cook; moving food from the freezer to the fridge; keeping an inventory of food including date received.

You will not be working alone. We have a small but dedicated volunteer base to ensure no one is unsupported. We will provide hands-on training and make sure that this opportunity to serve your community is a rich and satisfying experience for who ever decides to accept this challenge. 

Currently we need a driver and driver assistant to take over every other Thursday afternoon's route, delivering boxes of food starting on Thursday, November 16th, from 1pm to 3pm.

Generally, we are looking for volunteers to help with produce pick-up from several of our existing routes. The ideal volunteer commitment is every other week on a set schedule for one of our pickup routes. Our collection routes include Farmers Markets, Neighborhood Donation Stations, Partner Organizations providing both fresh and recovered produce. Using the preferred method of transport, the produce is collected and then delivered to the Kitsap Harvests aggregation/distribution hub.

This is a program that is in its third year here at KTAC. It is for Central Kitsap School District 1st graders. We teach them basic water safety and swimming skills at no cost to the schools. We have 5 different schools coming this school year and need volunteers that can be on the deck, in the water and helping to direct the kids from the buses to the pool area. This is a valuable program as we have over 180 miles of shoreline in Kitsap county and it is imperative that kids have basic skills to protect them and others around them.

We have a couple small areas that need mowing and weed wacking. If you'd like to get some volunteer hours this summer with a very flexible schedule, this might be for you! 

This active 9-year-old boy, who lives in West Bremerton, is interested in knowing more about becoming a lawyer. You don't have to be a lawyer, but that would be a bonus. Mentoring is an amazing experience for both the mentor and mentee. This child is looking for a mentor who will participate in fun activities. His favorite subject in school is math. His favorite things to do with people is play soccer, basketball, hockey, baseball, pool, tennis, pickle ball and video games. He would also like to know more about E Sports.

Volunteer Services is a program of Catholic Community Service and is in need of additional drivers in all areas of Kitsap county.  With the help of volunteers we provide transportation, yard service, repairs and household tasks to low-income seniors and disabled adults.  Our main request however is for transportation.   These are low income seniors with no other means of transportation.  We may take them to medical appointments, grocery stores or even church.  Even with Medicaid they are not provided transport to the grocery stores.

Our volunteers use their own vehicles and we provide additional liability policy, plus mileage reimbursement.  We have a great online scheduling program to help you volunteer on YOUR TIME.

We at the Central Kitsap Food Bank serve the community by alleviating food insecurity.  At the same time, we want to present our Food Bank at its best.  We are looking for volunteers that can come in for an hour and do full clean to prepare for the next day.  This position is for Monday’s from 1-2.  We are closed on all Federal Holidays.  Please contact J’aime our volunteer coordinator at info@ckfoodbank.org if you are interested. 

We are looking for individuals who can assist us with the running of the shelter. Volunteers are able to choose the amount of time they are able to contribute a week/month, as well as anything in particular they are looking to get involved in. To qualify you must be someone willing to meet our clients where they are, non judgemental or demeaning; have an open heart and a listening ear.

The volunteers are there to ensure the safety of the clients, ensuring only those with authorization are allowed into the facility, there is a little house keeping to be done but most of this is done by the clients themselves as part of their living skills training.

The morning shift duties include:

 We know your time is valuable as a volunteer so we are requesting anyone who is available for a 3-4 hour shift, which ever works best for your schedule. However many days a week is up to you as well! The morning shift is available any time between 10 am - 1 pm. The house closes up at 10 and the overnight volunteer takes over. 

Museum Attendants are an integral part of the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum’s operations, staffing the museum’s lobby desk, greeting and orienting all museum visitors to the building and the museum exhibition content, and serving as a resource for visitor inquiries regarding exhibition content or even local services. Our Museum Attendants help the museum accomplish its mission of preserving and interpreting naval undersea history, science, and operations for the benefit of the U.S. Navy and the people of the United States.

Museum Attendants serve as the welcoming and competent presence at the museum, allowing U.S. and international visitors to learn about the history and technology of U.S. Navy undersea advances and endeavors. Museum Attendants carry out museum policies and procedures to ensure visitor and artifact safety and proper visitation accounting. Based on COVID-19 conditions, additional health and safety protocols will be practiced.

We’re looking for volunteers who want to share their talents in the store and provide customer service and support in a fun and ever-changing environment. The BIMA Museum Store specializes in extending the visitor experience by offering locally produced and designed products that highlight the art and craft of the Puget Sound Region. Store volunteers will be a core point of contact with all visitors, and must be comfortable with initiating conversation, helping customers to access store merchandise, learning our point-of-sale system, handling money, and maintaining a general knowledge of store vendors and artists. If you have previous retail experience or customer service experience, this may be a great opportunity to assist the store team in extending the mission of BIMA.
