Volunteer: Episodic Volunteers

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is seeking episodic Volunteers for possible remote or community outreach off-site or behind-the-scenes on-site curatorial, marketing or education department projects. No experience or art background necessary, adults and teens age 18+ -- we will train you. Good people skills required and fluent computer skills preferred. Episodic volunteers assist with select events or special projects (e.g. curatorial research or data entry, marketing flyer distribution, education department support, or strong, careful lifters for installation crew -- possibly other volunteer opportunities as they arise). Commitment/hours determined by department, per project/goal. You do not need to live on island, reasonable commute from the Kitsap Peninsula and Seattle Ferry. Volunteer: Gallery Docent

Gallery Docent volunteers continually rotate through both floors of our museum, supervising and interpreting exhibitions while engaging guests in active and meaningful art conversations. This role serves as an arts ambassador, directly coordinating with and supporting the Gallery and Volunteer Manager, as well as Curatorial Associates and the Curatorial Department.  Growth opportunities include the ability to interact with and demonstrate select artworks, to lead group tours and to assist the Curatorial Department and BIMA Staff with other museum-related tasks, projects or events. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) preferred. You do not have to live on island nor have an arts background -- just possess a love of the arts, love to talk with people and love learning. We will teach you how to share with visitors the diversity of artists and forms of creativity endemic to our region. We are seeking a minimum volunteer commitment of two 2 - 2 1/2 hour shifts per month. Permission to run a background check and ability to follow our volunteer agreement. Help our visitors bring part of their BIMA experience home by volunteering in BIMA’s Museum Store! We’re looking for volunteers who want to share their talents in the store and provide customer service and support in a fun and ever-changing environment. The BIMA Museum Store specializes in extending the visitor experience by offering locally produced and designed products that highlight the art and craft of the Puget Sound Region. Store volunteers will be a core point of contact with all visitors, and must be comfortable with initiating conversation, helping customers to access store merchandise, learning our point-of-sale system, handling money, and maintaining a general knowledge of store vendors and artists. If you have previous retail experience or customer service experience, this may be a great opportunity to assist the store team in extending the mission of BIMA.
