Who We Are

Kids Discovery Museum is a community gem embracing children from birth to ten in their development, education and play.  The Museum includes an Our Town exhibit on the first floor with a bank, a grocery store, a doctor's office, construction site, waterfront park and the popular pirate tree house.  The second floor is the Science Hall where children learn and discover principles of science and math through their play with the interactive exhibits.  An art room provides an inspirational space for children to create independently or through suggested projects.  An outdoor play area gets the children moving with a climbing wall, water tables and other activities.

With a strong focus on education and early learning, the Museum offers daily programming with arts, music, science, technology, engineering, math and literacy.  This is skillfully woven into independent play and teacher-guided discovery.  In partnership with Wells Fargo, KiDiMu as the children call it, ensures that all people can attend regardless of ability to pay through its First Free Thursdays every month, averaging 300 - 400 people over a six-hour period. The Museum in total sees over 30,000 visitors a year from throughout Kitsap and King Counties and beyond.

One thing that makes Kids Discovery Museum so strong and vibrant is that it is a core element of the community.  Every new idea and opportunity is viewed through a lens of collaboration, drawing in scores of partnering organizations on all topics affecting children and families.  For example, when the Museum learned from the community that it was often too busy for children with autism, it worked with local autism programs to develop a Sensory Program, bringing the families into the Museum with therapists, trained staff and volunteers and parents.  It includes a quarterly drop-off program Kids Night at the Museum where parents can actually get a four hour break while their children are in skilled and professional hands.  Now the Museum is also integrating emergency preparedness and public safety for children under 10 through the popular Our Town exhibit.  KiDiMu is building a program called KiDiMuses for elementary, middle and high school students to continue their engagement through mentoring and teaching the younger ones.  Next...the Museum is hoping to add a solar system!

Every moment of every month is busy with community events such as the Kids for KiDiMu Walk, the annual Birthday Bash, holiday-themed parties and more.  The Museum is open 357 days a year and in 2015 will celebrate 10 years of bringing joy, learning and fun!
